Stewart's third film is also his best... with scenes of marine genocide that should make us all weep tears of rage.
Stewart believed people would rally to the shark cause if only they knew the gravity of the situation. The film is now made, the word is out and Stewart more than did his part.
The film is highly dramatic, moving and overwhelmingly sad at times, enlivened by what some have called Stewart's "magical" personality.
The sharks have lost their greatest fighter and advocate, but Stewart's message, even had he lived, is clear: It's up to all of us now.
Sharkwater Extinction takes the shark slaughter beyond Chinese soup and into outrageous 60 Minutes or Vice territory, with human and pet food and even cosmetics found to have undeclared, and toxic, shark ingredients.
This is not your average nature doc, with the crew having to fly drones over restricted areas, sneak in and out of countries, even ducking gunfire.
The film would have been different if Stewart was still alive, but now, it's his underwater magnum opus.
Stewart gets his ideas across with a laid-back-dude appeal that will reach kids of all ages, avoiding scientific lecturing and instilling hope even as he's sounding an alarm.
Although the film is more or less unfinished (but finished the absolute best that it could be under the circumstances), Sharkwater: Extinction boasts some of Stewart's strongest and most poignant work.
Sharkwater Extinction is a solid journalistic work that honours the man who made it.
