Creates an encompassing, believable and highly grownup world whose most frightening aspect is how much it mirrors ours.

It's not a terrible film and it's definitely not a boring one. There are a few laughs, gorgeous creatures to look at, and if you've been looking for something darker in the wizarding world, this is it.

The fun but predictable film moves the new series forward, but only incrementally, all the better to maximize the potential for six or seven more sequels to be strung out for Thanksgivings to come.

On the strength of this sequel - a dense yet deft return to the high standards Yates set with the Potter films - count this Muggle's heart and mind all in.

The world Rowling dreamt up during the Tony Blair era is getting no richer after this installment, but its creator and various producers certainly will be.

The Crimes of Grindelwald has an utter train wreck for a plot, jumping from thread to thread ... That's a shame, because there is plenty of good about the film.

Plenty of excitement to please most of Rowling's devotees.
November 15, 2018
It's essentially a joyless story with only a smattering of humorous moments and not much in the way of suspense.
November 15, 2018
It needlessly takes risks that do nothing but cause confusion and frustration for people who didn't want canon-altering twists. The film does audiences a disservice because it tries to out-fan them.

The Wizarding World starts to lose its magic as J.K. Rowling loses the thread of stories to tell within it.

With the main character such a drip amidst a raging storm of nonsensical subplots and CGI eye candy, it's no surprise that mumble-mouthed Newt gets lost in his own story.

Doesn't do a great job explaining the stakes and point of this series beyond milking the fanbase for another set of movies.

If nothing else, The Crimes of Grindelwald sets up some intriguing building blocks for the next movie, which hopefully will introduce even more fantastic beasts.

The movie frequently grinds to a halt as she scripts multiple scenes of characters standing around explaining things, yet these scenes never really clarify anything.

A dark but entertaining second chapter in J.K. Rowling's five-film series.

In the reconciliation of what we know and what we are given, there's magic to be found - just as long as you remember to tread carefully.

I can't call it a bad movie but I can't neither praise it as much as I love this magical universe. I'll seat it right in the level of Chamber of Secrets Territory [Full Review in Spanish]

Starts to feel like a trip to Azkaban long before it's over. Rowling has previously promised five "Fantastic Beasts" movies, but it's clear she barely has the imagination to fill one of these things.

The trick, which Crimes of Grindelwald doesn't completely pull off, is to make us care about yet another dark wizard... Depp's amazing performance as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald anchors the film.
